Danilo Bonometti was born in Riva del Garda in Trentino in 1967, where he works as a freelance Osteopath. After graduating from high school with a scientific diploma, he graduated then at the University of Bologna as a physical education teacher and then he took a diploma as a massage therapist and completed his studies with a degree in Osteopathy. His first work came about after returning from a business trip to the United States, to Kirksville Missouri. This experience was chronicled in his travel novel “Original Osteopathy”. His passion for books, action novels, and military thrillers, along with his love for writing, then prompted him to try his hand at publishing his first “action” novel, also translated into English as “10,000ft Rock Siege.” Of this novel he also wrote the screenplay for the project of an upcoming movie.
“The Shadow of the Predator: The Last Hunt” by Danilo Bonometti is the sequel to his seminal novel “Altitude 10,000 Feet: Rock Siege.”
In both works the main character is Sergeant Major Matteo Kalter – a Ranger in the Italian special forces. Although something of a boy scout, Kalter gives no quarter to the evil characters he is forced to confront.
Just as Ian Fleming entranced readers by taking them inside the inner workings of British intelligence, what I found intriguing about both novels is that the author draws us inside the mountaineering elements of Italian special forces – specifically the 4th Alpini Paratroopers Regiment. I’m pretty well acquainted with special forces around the globe, but this was new ground for me – i.e., operators who train in the ice and snow of the Dolomite Mountains of northern Italy.
Additionally, the author weaves in elements of the Carabinieri and Interpol as Kalter and a select team go after a slimy but clever king pin in the human trafficking “business” who is- hiding in the mountainous region east of the Adriatic. And it will make the reader squirm a bit as Bonometti shines a light into the horrific world of international child kidnappings and human “auctions.”
As the story unfolds, Kalter and his team must battle the king pin’s henchmen, but also navigate betrayal within the upper echelons that puts the operators at risk. The team has to rely on themselves and “off camera” support from old comrades to bring the king pin to heel, leaving a lot of blood on the snow along the way.
Bonometti is at his best in crafting action sequences in the snowy and mountainous terrain, putting the reader in the saddle of a snowmobile as automatic weapons fire is exchanged with tree branches whipping by; or Kalter taking out sentries with his sniper rifle. The Italian Ranger could definitely match agent 007 volt for volt.
What does the future hold for Sergeant Major Matteo Kalter? Let’s hope the wait won’t be too long! — Payne Harrison

“There’s a new sheriff in town within the military thriller genre and his name is Danilo Bonometti. His book ALTITUDE 10,000FT: Rock Siege takes you inside Italy’s 4th Aplini Ranger Regiment on a rescue mission set in the Dolomite Mountains – a terrain as rugged and deadly as it is beautiful.
The author weaves authenticity with action in a storyline that has plenty of surprises along the way. I look forward to future novels from the pen of Danilo Bonometti.” – Payne Harrison
